Introduction to Tapping Pt.1

Technique: Tapping
Difficulty: Intermediate
Lesson #1: Introduction to Tapping

Tapping is a method of playing notes by simply pressing, or ”tapping” them down on the fretboard. This can be done with the fingers of either hand. There are 2 main types of tapping: 1-handed tapping, and 2-handed tapping. Tapping often makes use of hammerons and pulloffs in order to cycle and repeat a sequence.

Ex 1: In this example, you will tap the fretted notes with your left hand fingers and pull off to make the open string ring out.

Ex 2: In this example, you will use your right index finger to tap the high note (12th fret) and pulloff to the low note (5th fret). You will then hammeron the 8th fret and pulloff back to the 5th fret.
